For a thoughtful evening of photography as we showcase the work of award-winning photographers, Ron Levine and Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Renee Byer.
Levine will share with us his Prisoners of Age and After/Life: Second Chances Beyond a Life Sentence work. Beginning in 1996 with unprecedented access to the world's first geriatric prison in Alabama, the work explores the human realities of aging behind bars and the challenges of re-entering society after decades of incarceration.
Byer for more than four decades has used photography to document defining moments in people's lives—and she continues that work today. Through stories of loss and resilience, struggle and hope, injustice and triumph, her reporting has focused on the human experience behind the headlines. Her Pulitzer Prize -winning project, A Mother's Journey to ongoing coverage of homelessness, domestic violence, health care inequities, environmental change, immigrant communities and women preparing for military deployment, she has sought to illuminate issues that shape lives and communities.
This promises to be a provocative night of photography.
